At war with radical Islam
National Post
Published: Thursday, July 19, 2007Re: Managing Islam's Civil War, Jonathan Kay, July 17
Mr. Kay correctly identifies one aspect of the global jihad: the war within Islam and Islamic countries. But he understates the importance of the Islamist war being waged against liberal, secular democratic countries and values. Canadians at last are seeing that radical Islamists wage war not only against fellow Muslims, but also against liberal democracies. Jihadis menace the streets of London, Glasgow, Madrid, Paris and New York -- and Toronto, Montreal and other Canadian centres as well. Meanwhile, infidels are exterminated in Algeria, India, Indonesia, Israel, the Philippines, Somalia, Sudan and Thailand.
While much has been said about Islamists using terror, little has been offered about political Islam's power-projection by immigration, demographic shift and stealth. Today, Islamists in Canada shamelessly demand hard-line, shariah-based practices, including Muslim-only swimming in tax-funded pools, Muslim-only gender-apartheid facilities at public universities, even Muslim-specific hiring in government.
Now that Canadians are face to face with radical Islam, the choice is simple: We can protect innocent citizens -- including Muslims -- by fighting the supremacist agenda at home and by battling the fanatics' bases in Afghanistan, Iraq and Iran. Or we can bury our heads in the sand, hoping that we, unlike other infidels, will be granted mercy by those seeking to fly the Crescent atop our legislatures.
