Re: Canada Foreign Affairs Memo Annotated. Even worse! posted by Shelley
I confess to knowing about this for the last week or so, but hoping to see the problem get resolved from within. Whomever originally leaked the memo from Foreign Affairs (and rightly so) must have also sent it to Daniel Pipes because it appeared on his website, and now on the Canadian Values site. The discussion thread that is now on this forum spells the end of any quiet period, I guess.
I think it is safe to say that there is as much concern at the Minsterial level as is being expressed here. For that reason, I am optimistic that something will be done, but I won't rest until it is. Words are good, but only decisive action and enforcement count.
This is a problem of the bureaucracy, not of the ministry, and the bureaucracy has been incubated by the last government. And this is not the only department where such inappropriate influence is being formalized.
According to the memo, this group has been in place since the summer of 2005, and no doubt the members have been there a lot longer. Now it has been upgraded and given full operational status, whatever that means. Clearly, there was inadequate background checking done if someone like Crystal P. can be a key player.
I am told that the worst part is that David Mulroney, the champion and cheerleader of this project, has been elevated to position of senior advisor on foreign affairs and defence (really!) in the Privy Council.
This is an obscenity and a danger to public safety of significant proportions, and a further example of the privileging of Muslim inetrests at the expense of non-Muslim interests within the Canadian government. The bureaucrats will try and play it down, saying "Gee, no one listens to these committees anyway." Well, even is that is true (and with the broad operational mandate of this group, I don't believe it's true), then we have another good argument for saving precious tax dollars.
We are on the case, and now that it is in the public domain, I would recommend that everyone make their voices heard, including setting up petition sites and emailing every MP and Senator.
