The problem with Robert's thesis is that the brutal imperialism of Muslim regimes has been the norm rather than the exception for the past 1350 years-- for 1000 prior to the establishment of the political entity known as the United States of America.
This is not my opinion, but recorded history as set down by some of the greatest scholars the Muslim, Western, and Indian worlds have known.
I suggest Robert begin his studies with "The Legacy of Jihad" by Andrew Bostom, "Islamic Imperialism" by Efraim Karsh. He might then be ready to read Bat Ye'or, Steve Emerson, Stuart Bell, et al.
