This is about more than just "one man's opinion." This is, as you have noted before, one of those very influential individuals who holds a position of trust and who comes with considerable celebrity.
Your argument about not banning ul-Haq because it could negate the 'essence of what we are fighting for' rings a little hollow. Ul-Haq's presence and influence in this country will SURELY negate the essence of who we are--a free, open society.
Given that we currently incarcerate Canadian citizens who foolishly joke about carrying weapons on an airplane, preventing entrance to an influential person who is known for inciting violence is a reasonable act. The backlash rhetoric should be seen for what it is, just another avoidance of responsibility by those who would really just like to be free to preach hatred and gather the strength to act on it.
