I am writing to join with many other Muslims, Christians, Hindus, and Jews, who recognize that the bringing to Canada of a Muslim preacher, who has a recorded history of hate-mongering is a serous assault on the Canadian way of respecting all faiths. I join with those who oppose permitting this man to come to Canada.
When on CBC. the interviewers put a direct question to supporters of Sheikh Ul-Haq concerning his statements that condemn Muslims who recognize the State of Israel and his statement that the people on earth who most hate Muslims are Jews and Hindus, the supporters simply cannot directly answer the question, and hide behind such statements as, " I cannot comment on that because I never heard it" , or say " it was taken out of context".
One interviewer on CBC said that there can be no context that could excuse such statements. The answers given resulted in further obfuscations since there cannot be any context which could excuse such bigotry.
The Muslim community which just recently claimed that they do not want to be seen as a community which fosters hate must speak more loudly and join with those Muslims who have joined the voices of Canadians who truly value our way of life and our respect for all religions. They must join the call for a refusal to allow into this great country a man who thinks it's a sin to recognize Israel and who preaches that Jews and Hindus hate Muslims.
After the arrest of the 17 Muslim youths accused (but not yet proven) of planning a terrorist attack ,a Muslim preacher who has a well recorded history of this kind of preaching should not be allowed to preach his brand of Islam to easily affected Muslim youth ;
Canada is a free country but freedom of speech does not permit the preaching of hate against specific groups in our society.
If the Canadian government allows this man into Canada, then the message sent by our government is that we welcome those that sow seeds of hate, that we do not support our own principles, and that our protestations of safeguarding people from hate is spurious and without foundation.
