It was 100% the Opposition, led by Alexa McDonough, who fought to deny the right of the Lebanese, CIDA, Red Cross and CCD to present their testimony. The Conservatives fought tooth and nail to prevent the committee from being hijacked in this way, but the Opposition all voted to shut out those who might contradict their infantile anti-Harper diatribes.

To underscore McDonough's position, a press conference was called in the media room by some anti-Harper Lebanese group that I had never heard of. It was they who condemned the Conservatives and conveniently parroted McDonough's despicable and damaging assertions about the other Lebanese groups. So naturally, CBC would pick up on that bunch.

All the other Lebanese groups who were the voices of moderation and who overall supported Harper (although who were not necessarily all fully supportive of Israel) held a press conference right after the anti-Harper press conference, but received no coverage for their position. Elias Bejjani spoke on behalf of his mother who had just been evacuated from Lebanon and wanted to thank the Canadian government, but the CBC had no interest in hearing that.

It was clear that McDonough and the other Opposition MPs were terrifed of having their mindless criticism of the evacuation contradicted by those with experience on the ground, and so perverted the democratic process for the cheapest of political gain.

It was the most disgusting spectacle I have ever seen from Opposition politicians. Until yesterday, I would not have thought they could stoop so low.
