I have sent the following message to Mr. Mckay:
Sir
I have written the Prime Minister several times to compliment him on the wisdom and leadership exhibited in Canadian foreign policy, particularly as involving the middle east, since the Conservative Party came to power.
Along with millions of Canadians I am impressed that our government is finally confronting the realities of our world, taking principled decisions and backing them up with tangible action .... and without intimidation by its current minority status in parliament.
I am convinced that such leadership will be rewarded in the polls by traditional Conservative supporters, and by ex-liberals like myself who have no further toleration with "honest brokerage," which is nothing but jargon for appeasement, and with the unabashed abdication of ethics and responsibility.
And now we face another test created by the cynical "union" of Hamas and Fatah for the clear purpose of extorting Western aid without accepting basic change to its policies of sanctioned indiscriminate killing of civilians and the elimination of the only democracy in the region, Israel.
For the first time in many, many years I have a real expectation that my government will see through the smokestream and set an example to the rest of the western bloc, empowering other governments to act out of principle not expediency or appeasement.
Please remain steadfast in opposing the resumption of any but humanitarian aid to the Palestinian authority
