I happen to be a fervent non-Jewish post-Christian Zionist with a passing interest in Sufism.
I'm certainly not the only one who has seen parallels between the UK hostage crisis and the Israeli hostage taking last year. Caroline Glick, that staunchest of Zionists, had this to say in her 27 Mar 2007 column at JP:
"Another theory is that in kidnapping the sailors the Iranians are seeking to reenact their ploy from last summer. Then, Iran ordered its Lebanese proxy Hizbullah to kidnap IDF soldiers in order to divert the international community's attention away from Iran's nuclear program. As is the case with the British servicemen, so last summer's attack on the IDF took place as the Security Council was expected to convene and discuss sanctions against Iran for its pursuit of nuclear weapons."
It's a crying shame that those 3 Israeli soldiers are still behind bars. Whether Israel failed to act firmly enough or diplomatically enough can be a source for discussion and analysis. The fact remains that Blair achieved what Olmert failed to achieve.
I love Israel too, so let's just calm down a little here.
