David Harris, CCD Senior Fellow for National Security, is on a fact-finding mission to Taiwan to investigate China's belligerent actions to block Taiwan's bid to join the World Health Organization. Taiwan has one of the most advanced healthcare systems in the world, and leads in expertise for the containment of viral pandemics such as SARS. China, on the other hand, kept information about its own SARS outbreak secret, thus placing the world at risk. Yet we kowtow to China and remain silent as a valuable contributor such as Taiwan is excluded from the world health body.
