Andy, I would like to look more closely at your attempt to create moral equivalency between the United States and China. To begin with, where would you chose to live? Are both countries equally attractive to you in terms of respecting your human rights? If you were a Falun Gong practitioner, where would you live? Unless you were anxious to become a living organ donor, I think you would chose the United States.
In fact, let us not argue the differences between the U.S. and China, but let the world's refugees make that case. For you and me, it is an armchair debate. For fleeing refugees, it is a matter of life and death for them and their families. And overwhelmingly their decision is that the US will respect their rights more than any country on the planet.
So I think it is somewhat sophomoric to suggest that we sanction the very best on the planet (albeit, not perfect) when there are infinitely worse all around us.
Al
