Re: United Jewish Appeal doesn't like CCD position posted by David Koschitzky
My two children have taken advantage of the Catholic education system in Ontario. What is important to remember is that the Catholic education system is mandated by our constitution and has been confirmed by the supreme court and it is a recognition of the two founding faiths of modern democratic Canada.
When I hear other faith groups saying that they should get the same funding as the Catholic system I say to them take it up with the supreme court and see if funding for all faiths can be read into the constitution, and if it can't then we are stuck with what we have had for well over one hundred years.
To demand funding for all religions would be like demanding that Canada be an officially multilingual country providing services in every language spoken in the country, not just the founding languages of modern Canada. I know some people will say we should include all the aboriginal languages but they were not uniting languages and each was only used in a very small part of the country not across the entire nation. The uniting languages were English and French and those are given privileged status.
The U.J.A.Fed gentleman is to be admired for wishing to give his children with a Jewish education but it should not be the financial burden of all Canadians. People who have come to Ontario come here on the understanding that there are two official languages and two education boards, not dozens to reflect the language and religion preferences of each new group.
Those who are demanding that Jewish, Muslim and other schools be funded by the taxpayer are demanding something that is not in our constitution and that would be the equivalent of forcing taxpayers to provide full government services in every language in the country.
But I would pay for my children's Catholic education myself if it meant funding the twisted schools of certain extremist communities now in Canada. We have seen the violence and the horrors and the endless attacks on our traditions that these groups are responsible for and to provide them with free brainwashing paid for by the taxpayer would make Canada the destination of choice for extremists. (I do not include Jewish schools in this threat but if I say the ones I mean I will be sued like everyone else who speaks the truth about them)
Public and Catholic are the education choices paid for by the taxpayer and if that is not acceptable please find another country that will pay for your faith. Here the church and state are not in bed together.
Sorry for my long ramble- but I have waited for an opportunity like this for a long time.
