Amen! - that's a secular amen ;)

I'll be writing my M.P. over this issue. That and the 'right' for Sikhs to carry knives in public, including schools. Ridiculous. This country needs to wake up and realize primitivist, medieval 'traditions' born of ingrained misogyny, homophobia, ethnic hatred, and other violent and repressive attitudes have no place in our country, no matter the religious justification, and only invite certain immigrants to carry over to Canada the cycle of violence that poisoned their homelands.

p.s. I'm pretty much with Hitchens on religion in general, but at least the Judeo-Christian ones are mostly civilized to their subjects and each other, and so I can respect their beliefs.
