Re: 'Burqa voting' decision undermines electoral integrity & ballot box equality posted by Linda Gruson
Have you seen some polling stations in rural Canada? You are asking for a separate room and female staff? Some of these stations are a corner of a shop or gas station and are lucky if they can find two retired guys to run them. How much do we owe these fundamentalists? I pay enough taxes without accommodating some tenth-century Islamic ritual of female subjugation.
And will it end here? What about
1. When the same people demand that they be photographed in their burkas for drivers licenses?
2. When they demand they be photographed in their burkas for their passports?
3. Assuming photo ID even exists, can a burka'd suspect refuse to identify his or her self to a police officer?
4. What about at every customs and immigration post at hundreds of airports and land crossings? Will burka'd individuals be allowed to enter the country with no verification of who they are? Will every crossing now have to have a female officer and separate room to accommodate female Islamic fundamentalists?
5. Can these people demand to be allowed to work at airports completely covered in a burka with no obligation to identify themselves?
6. How long before we hear demands that they be police officers and airline security workers with their faces completely hidden and no right for any male they apprehend to demand that they prove their identity?
7. And what about every other crackpot who refuses to reveal his or her face at polling stations, border crossings, police stations, security checkpoints, airline security checks, etc.? On what basis will we tell them that this privilege only exists for one religion - Islam?
But don't be silly. No one will go that far. Oh yeah? Who would ever have guessed that women entirely covered except for their eyes would demand the right to vote without the same scrutiny to which the rest of us are subjected? This is step one in a long series of "accommodations" that will not stop until we have accommodated away all our rights and freedoms to a primitive cult.
And we cannot overlook that the religion that is making these demands is the religion in whose name innocent people are slaughtered daily and who clearly have the same intent in Canada. This is the last religion for which any accommodation should be made.
THINK!
