It's terribly dissapointing to see that in a nation like Canada freedom of choice isn't tolerated but ignorance is. I've read each and every comment and everyone just trashes the religion. Islam is not about violence, it is indeed about peace and understandably, people fail to recognize that due to all the negative things they hear, see and read about Islam. Innocent people get killed in the name of the religion, no one's denying that, but why should we let them use it as an excuse?
I grew up in a non-strict muslim family. I don't cover my head and i don't criticize those who do, because frankly how the hell is it harming me in any way?
However, when it comes to the consent of wearing the burkha while voting, is it really asking for too much if we accomodate these women? Like a few already mentioned, these women represent a small statistic of voters. Many of you sarcastically point out that they probably never had the right to vote back in their homeland. You're right, perhaps they didn't. Well they came here not with the intention of bombing civilians or brainwashing people into converting. They came here hoping for a better future. These women want their voices to be heard by casting a vote, but little did they know that freedom of choice is shunned by many of their neighbours.
