Wondering if I was not exagerating in my last comment, I did investigate a bit about the way Quebec is portrayed around this issue in the English media. It did not took long for me to get to this editorial from The Montreal Gazette "Veiled-voting firestorm is silly" (http://www.canada.com/montrealgazette/news/editorial/story.html?id=5e0fba86-7832-4c8f-bb92-7dc8dea0267f) . They say: "In Canada, the issue is hardly on the radar in any other province. Much of Quebec is so exercised about the issue, we suspect, not because of any concern over womens' rights but simply because the idea of visible minority communities is still rather new in parts of this province."
This is not even subtle. They deliberately ignored the fact that no other province have been confront with this issue since none have reform voting in order to require an id with a picture as Quebec as done. Believe me, it is the women rights that are at the center of Quebec outrage around this issue, not our so-called extraordinary tendency to be uneasy toward visible minority. Anyway, name me a province that is not in part maid of regions mainly composed of good old white, English speaking unused to visible minority. I would not have published such none sense in a student journal.
I have not gone through all the English speaking media, but I suspect the Gazette won't be alone to praise Islamists rights in order to attack Quebec racism... You tell me. This old fashion feud between English and French might turn out to be our weakest spot. Those who rightly pointed out to me the Hezbollah rally affair, I agree with you. Quebec nationalists have this silly tendency to identify themselves to Palestinians just because they are fighting for a country. Needless to say that most of these nationalists (feminist, homosexual, and others ignorant leftists) know little about what type of country Hamas and Hezbollah are planning to build for the Palestinians.
I am asking you to be watchful. I invite you to complain by mail to the directors of any media using resistance to Islamism within Quebec to fuel an old perception of an intolerant Nationalist Quebec. Tell them it is time to relax our little differences and they are insignificant compare to what we face with Islamism. It is very important that our Canadian media (of any language) start to understand that we are both concern as Canadians and Quebecers (French or English speaking) about the raise of Islamism in our country. Look at Great Britain and France. Both adopted a different integration model, and both are having major issues with Islamists. So the point is not to determine who have the best relationship with immigrants between Quebec and Canada, the point is that Islamist immigrants are voluntary creating problem in any country they immigrate too even Muslim countries. We have to unite to fight it.
Thank for those of you who support us in our outrage against face veil voting.
