The essence of this article, like others questions the purpose, use and societal benefit of Human Rights Commissions and concludes these commissions end up being the handmaiden of those individuals who seek to curb the freedom of speech of others.

Included in this piece is another issue that needs more attention.

The editorial states as regards the 4 Muslim law students who were doubtless put up to lodging the complaint against MacLeans that they:

"claim that Maclean's has fanned hatred and Islamophobia by putting forward the position that a global conspiracy involving Muslims is poised to take over the West and impose repressive Islamic laws."

Consider this claim in light of two facts:

1. If you recall, the words singled out in the excerpt from Steyn's book that these 4 Muslim students claim were offensive to and incited hatred of Muslims, were not Steyn's words, but the words of a European imam Steyn quoted.

2. Further there have been quite a number of reported instances where non-Muslim writers have quoted the words of Bin Laden, some other hate filled Jihadist, Muslim imam or Muslim leader, only to have the Muslim activist propaganda packhounds here in Canada cry foul and accuse the speaker of promoting hatred against Muslims.

For most Westerners, these Muslims who rail in anger against a non-Muslim for merely quoting the hate filled words of a Muslim Jihadist, while they have no compunction to mouth those words and ideas themselves is insanely out of synch with Western logic and common sense.

That being the case, most Canadians, including I would expect most Canadian Muslims you would think, would have no hesitation in telling these Muslims claiming to be offended by such quoted words to be told in no uncertain terms to take a hike.

For reasons that strain the mind, if the reasons can even be guessed at, there are at least some Canadians contrary to all common sense and logic who support these two faced hypocritical Muslims who cry foul when reading or hearing the words of a Jihadist spoken by a non-Muslim.

Worse still, our HRCs take such complaints by self declared offended Muslims at face value.

The Ontario HRC by declining to act on the complaint by the 4 self declared offended Muslims against MacLeans, but then gratuitously accusing MacLeans of spreading hatred against Muslims with publication of the excerpt of Steyn's article, ignored all the principles enshrined in our laws about fundamental justice that say every accused has a right to make full answer and defence in the forum provided for that purpose.

The Ontario HRC by making these claims publically and not within the forum intended for it to make such findings, deprived MacLeans of a forum to defend themselves.

MacLeans can of course consider taking the Ontario HRC and its officers to task for defamation in a court of law.

Not only has the Ontario HRC thumbed its nose at our Canadian fundamental rights, they have acted in defiance of common sense and even basic courtesy.

The BC Human Rights Commission in accepting the complaint of these 4 Muslims against MacLeans, may have acted within some semblance of the law, but like the Ontario Human rights commission has abrogated any responsibility to act reasonably and fairly and that they have even accepted this complaint to prosecute, have also acted in defiance of any logic or common sense.

Returning however to the 4 Muslim law students who claim they were offended by the MacLean's article are it should be noted are law students.

Law school teaches students not just about law, but also about the importance of logic and common sense in the application of our laws. Add to that law schools teach students about honesty, integrity and honor and the need for lawyers to at all times act honorably, honestly and with integrity.

Given the fact that these 4 Muslim law students claim it amounts to Islamophobia for a non-Muslim to quote a Jihadist Muslim's words about Islamic hatred for the West or in this case that the manifest destiny of Islam is to defeat and dominate the West, it begs the question just how much are these 4 Muslim law students learning at the law school they are attending?
