How pathetic to see Conservative politicians sucking up to rock stars and promoting a foregin aid policy that will only prolong Africa's misery. Billions of dollars have gone to Africa, and ths situation only worsens. Surely these politicians have the imagination to see that when a patient's symptoms are getting worse and worse, you don't just keep increasing the dosage of the medicine that is causing the horrible adverse effects in the first place.
Zimbabwe has gone from being the bread basket of Africa to yet another basket case. Clearly, the solution is not to further enrich Mugabe with foreign aid, but to get rid of him. Protective Western trade barriers, nepotism, corruption, lack of vital skills, Western tolerance of tyrants -- these are the causes of Africa's problems.
If aging rockers and Conservative politicians want to serve some goal other than their own vanity, educating the world to these realities would be the place to start.
