Re: Unfit To lead The United Nations, editorial, March 30.
While
I wholeheartedly agree that Kofi Annan is unfit to continue to serve as
Secretary-General of the UN, his resignation alone will not save the
institution. The UN needs the credibility of the member states and the
public at large to survive otherwise it runs the risk of becoming what
Sir Winston Churchill feared, a "Tower of Babble."
The Canadian
government should be prepared to offer more suggestions to help save
the UN from its current state where dictators and tyrants run the
General Assembly, peacekeepers face accusations of raping young girls
in Africa and where possible corruption and bureaucratic waste are all
but ignored.
